Introduction

Hello.

I’m Christian Price, Technologist with a zeal for gadgets and design.

Previously known as “The Fixer” in some circles, I have over 18 years of experience in technology and of that, 15 years in higher education. In that time, I have served in multiple capacities. Coming from a family of technology and management professionals has helped inspire my desire to lead others in the pursuit of technology solutions that make the day-to-day a little less tedious. I graduated with a Master of Library and Information Science degree in December 2021 and, as of August 2023, was accepted into the Ph.D. program at the University of South Carolina in Library and Information Science.

This portfolio fulfills the capstone requirement for the Certificate in Specialized Study in Information Science at the University of South Carolina iSchool. The portfolio consists of 3 learning outcomes that cover the core competencies of professional development, specialized knowledge skill acquisition, and specialized knowledge skill mastery. In the future, I hope, that it stands as a measure of growth between the MLIS program and the start of the Ph.D. program.

Vision Statement

Equitable Access.

As an information professional and technologist, I pledge myself to lifelong learning and growth. While this intake of knowledge and becoming shapes me, I feel that it in turn shapes the world. Throughout my voyages, I plan to create a better world where there is truly equitable access to information and resources. From graduating with my Master of Library and Information Science degree at the University of South Carolina through the continuation of coursework in the iSchool, I have grown immensely. I plan to continue my metamorphosis into an academic researcher with admittance to the Ph.D. program at the same institution.

During my iSchool graduate certificate coursework, I have discovered a path to focus my concern for social issues continuing to plague humanity. How do we measure our progress toward a fair, just, and educated society against the backdrop of cruelty against ourselves? I don’t have the answer, but library science has taught me how to look for helpers and position myself to serve them. In doing so, I plan to create solutions to resolve information scarcity. Information scarcity was once the bedrock of education, but that is no longer the case. Humanity must, through a decentralized web of information repositories move beyond scarcity-created for-profit models that empower corporate greed. Thus, creating the fair and just society needed to make humankind sustainable.
