Specialized Knowledge Skill Acquisition

This work sample demonstrates my competency in specialized knowledge skill acquisition toward my development goals by teaching the proficiencies need to analyze research articles. This fits in with my developmental goals because I plan to become research faculty after I finish my Ph.D. For the final project, I read research articles and then analyzed and identified key elements while evaluating the quality of the research article based on lessons throughout the semester. The project acted as a culmination of the materials taught in the course.

I consumed the provided research articles and analyzed them through the lens of the quantitative and qualitative processes. The instructor also provided videos on review research articles. I watched the videos and took notes on the sections I thought were helpful. The example article analysis helped me to construct an analysis for the worksheet stage of the project. Examining multiple research articles in this manner provided me insight into what makes a quality article.

Analyzing articles helped me understand what makes a quality research article. This will prove valuable in the future when I am writing research articles that I hope to publish in journals. The instructor’s feedback was insightful and stated that my analysis was great overall but needed to pay a little closer attention to fine details. I took this feedback into consideration and improved my analysis.
